Leading and innovating

We have a strong record of accomplishment in developing and sharing insights, tools, and resources. You can read and download articles and guidance free from our website Resources – Trusted Assessing and Care Training, and we have a range of materials that learners access though our learning management system. We regularly contribute to workshops and speak at events, and our staff can often be found supporting teams and sharing insights from our work UK-wide.

In 2026 we will be reporting on the impact of Trusted Assessors on older and disabled people’s lives. We have commissioned RIDC to interview members of the public about their experiences in assessment, an industry first: Have Your Say – Help Shape the Future of Trusted Assessor Services.

We work in partnership with a range of leading professional bodies including BHTA, Care & Repair Cymru, Foundations, Homecare Association, Housing LIN, NAEP, National Care Forum, RCOT and The Wheelchair Alliance and we regularly introduce new and innovative programmes.

Personalised service

At the heart of our approach is our friendly and professional approach. We use the latest systems and technology, but we prioritise personal contact and support for our learners. Partners and commissioners enjoy working with us collaboratively and we will always aim to listen carefully and tailor our programmes to fit your needs.

Our training content can be adjusted to suit you, our delivery programmes are devised to complement their settings, and our consultancy projects are tailored to your requirements.

Experts in assessing for equipment and adaptations

As an OT-led company our team benefits from specialising in majoring on assessing for equipment and adaptations. We understand the importance of practical skills and the confidence that this brings in practice.

Years of experience in the sector mean that we can provide impartial advice and insights and share resources that we have developed to support you.

Helping people live independently

TACT's work is based on a simple principle: people should be able to access the practical solutions they need to live safely and independently at home, and our programmes are all designed to speed up access to those solutions.

We work with a wide range of organisations around the person to improve assessment pathways, develop staff skills and make better use of the expertise available.

Our programmes include:

Trusted Assessor qualifications

Enabling staff to assess for straightforward equipment and adaptations and recognise when an Occupational Therapist is needed for a more complex assessment.

Trusted Advisor training

Helping front-door and first-contact staff provide informed advice and signposting about equipment and independent living.

Trusted Installer training

Supporting staff who install, adjust and demonstrate community equipment and minor adaptations.

Specialist Trusted Assessor courses

  • For equipment suppliers and retailers – enabling staff to assess for appropriate solutions in an appropriate and ethical way that links to the role of OT.
  • For Trusted Assessors who specialise in seated and TEC solutions – a range of courses offering a focus on these areas.

Professional development for Occupational Therapists and qualified prescribers

Including practical refresher training and courses focused on equipment, adaptations and reablement.

Occupational Therapy consultancy and service improvement

Helping organisations review and develop their assessment services, pathways and support for independent living.

Supervision and assessment services

Providing supervision to OTs and Trusted Assessors and assessments and advice when an individual needs support with equipment, adaptations or changing needs.

Trusted Assessor training

The Trusted Assessor model enables qualified staff to undertake assessments for straightforward equipment and adaptations, while ensuring that more complex cases are referred to an Occupational Therapist.

Trusted Assessor qualifications are based on defined competencies, helping organisations establish clear boundaries between the role of the Trusted Assessor and that of the Occupational Therapist.

TACT's courses are accredited by OCN London. Training is delivered by Occupational Therapists with specialist experience in equipment and home adaptations.

A team approach

Trusted Assessors can be based in a variety of organisations including care and housing providers, charities and other services provided at home as well as within local authority and NHS teams harnessing the power of a range of roles that support people at home.

A well-designed Trusted Assessor service can enable:

  1. 1

    Trusted Advisors

Provide information, advice and signposting at the first point of contact.

  2. 2

    Trusted Assessors

Assess straightforward needs and prescribe appropriate equipment and adaptations within their competencies.

  3. 3

    Occupational Therapists

Assess more complex needs and provide specialist clinical assessment and intervention.

  4. 4

    Trusted Installers

Install, adjust and demonstrate equipment and minor adaptations where appropriate.

This joined-up approach in localities can help make better use of professional expertise while enabling people to access appropriate solutions more quickly.

Training and support from Occupational Therapists

TACT's trainers are Occupational Therapists with experience in equipment and adaptations. Courses both public open ones and directly commissioned projects are available through eLearning, blended learning and face-to-face delivery across the UK, with programmes that can also be tailored to an organisation's requirements.

Training is supported by ongoing learning and development. TACT's Trusted Assessor programmes include access to knowledge top-ups, and, for qualified Trusted Assessors, 12 months of free online webinars led by Occupational Therapist trainers.

TACT can also advise organisations on governance, supervision and support arrangements for Trusted Assessor services.

Occupational Therapy services

TACT also provides specialist Occupational Therapy services, including assessment and advice relating to equipment, home adaptations and independent living.

Our OT services can support individuals, organisations and projects where specialist knowledge of equipment and adaptations is required.

Working with organisations

TACT works with:

  • NHS and other health services
  • Local authorities and social care services
  • Housing providers and housing teams
  • Care providers
  • Equipment suppliers and retailers
  • Charities and organisations supporting people at home

We can provide individual courses or work with organisations to develop a wider programme of training, supervision, competency checking and service improvement.
